Firefly Hill Information

A Legacy of Passionate and Responsible Breeding

At Firefly Hill, our passion for quality livestock spans decades. After 20 years of raising sheep and 25 years with Boer goats, founders Blakely and Toby Harter embarked on a new adventure into the world of llamas. Their decision to attend the International Llama Sale was the culmination of years of research, mentorship, and a deep commitment to understanding the species’ unique traits and needs.
From their first National Llama Show, Blakely and Toby were captivated—not only by the llamas themselves but also by the welcoming, knowledgeable community that surrounds them. What began as a plan to purchase a trio and a single appaloosa female quickly evolved, leading to the acquisition of a different female along with invaluable mentorship that would shape the direction of Firefly Hill’s llama program.
Through meticulous pedigree research and continuous learning, Firefly Hill identified the GNLC Merlin bloodline as the ideal foundation for their herd. True to their breeding philosophy, they focus on producing big-boned, long, level-topped, and structurally sound animals—traits that have also defined their Boer goat program, featuring champions such as Bernie’s Catalyea and BB14/AABG/NBD Mayhem Ennobled (Sire of Merit). Elegance, style, and structural correctness are hallmarks of their breeding vision, reflected in their llamas like Ollendick Farms Elena and FPL Baby Cakes—both finished in their first year of showing, with Baby Cakes earning multiple Best in Show titles. Today, their herd of 15 females consistently exemplifies these high standards.
Blakely and Toby are deeply committed to the preservation and advancement of every species they raise. They practice mindful breeding—pairing animals only when it contributes meaningfully to genetic quality and breed improvement. This philosophy extends to their Australian Shepherds, who are cherished members of the Firefly Hill family. Blakely’s journey with Aussies began over eight years ago after relocating to Colorado, leading to the development of a respected breeding program highlighted by their foundation sire, Fiddlers Green Our Dreams Are On Fire, affectionately known as “Onyx.”
If you are seeking responsible breeders who value health, genetic testing, and mentorship, Firefly Hill is your trusted partner in building a thriving llama herd or Australian Shepherd pack.
